County Approves SPLOST Funding for Arcado Road Intersection
In February, the city of Lilburn approved funding for this project, as well.
The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners approved an agreement Tuesday that moves forward improvements for Arcado Road.
Specifically, the improvements are for the intersection of Arcado Road and Camp Creek Road/Cole Road. The project includes upgrades to pedestrian safety, crosswalks, and the mast arm of the traffic signal.
The county has agreed to pay half of the $130,000 project cost using SPLOST funds that were re-allocated in January. In February, the city of Lilburn approved the other half of the funding, not to exceed $65,000.

Construction is expected to begin June 2013, according to the city of Lilburn. The Gwinnett County Department of Transportation will manage construction.
"Pedestrians and drivers alike will benefit from the upgrades that will include crosswalks, ramps and pedestrian signals,” said District 2 Commissioner Lynette Howard. "Entering into another transportation improvement agreement with Lilburn so soon tells me that city officials are as committed as we are to a safer and more livable community."
Earlier in March, county officials approved additional funding for Lilburn's Main Street relocation.

Thank goodness! I drive this road to go to my sister's house and the first few times I drove there in the night I almost drove off the road!

I wish the County would create pedestrian routes for the surrounding Arcado ES area- specifically from new sidewalk that ends at Rockbridge Rd/Lilburn Stn Mtn road (in front of the Kindercare) down Rockbridge Rd to Arcado Rd.
Arcado ES has the largest elementary student population in Lilburn and could greatly benefit from additional sidewalks.
Arcado ES has 972 students
Camp Creek ES has 969 students
Knight ES has 718 students
Mountain Park ES has 596 students

According to a recent AJC article the ES off Indian Trail Road (whose name escapes me) a short distance from 29 has 1800 students, the largest number in the county, and while there are some sidewalks off IT there are none on it.
