Do You Still Send Christmas Cards?
When did you last receive a whole bunch of Christmas cards?
Yesterday, I received my first Christmas card of the season. I really appreciate it - and any others I get - especially since I'm not very good about sending any out myself.
In the last decade, the sale of Christmas cards has pretty much gone down in proportion to the rise of social media. Those people we never communicated with except for that once a year Christmas card, well, we now know pretty much when they last had a cup of coffee - and even that it was in their living room in Australia.
With Facebook not costing any more than your Internet connection, and the cost of postage stamps on the rise, it just makes sense to use Facebook - or maybe a musical e-card. I mean, why not? With time such a precious commodity these days, it's just easier to wake up Christmas morning and wish all your friends a Merry Christmas. Hey, you can make it personal and "like" all the Merry Christmas wishes you get in return. And there's always Twitter as back up if you want to make sure you get the message out.
So tell us, are you still a traditionalist? Will you be making your way to the post office this year to send all your friends and relatives their own personalized Christmas card? Or will you wake up on Dec. 25 and hit the keyboard to share your Christmas wishes?

I also got my first Christmas card yesterday. Last year I probably got about five-- from my two best friends and the rest from family. I have a friend who sent a Youtube music video of his wife and daughter singing a Christmas song this year. But I remember as a child, taping all of the cards we got on the doorway to the living room. That's now a tradition of yesteryear.

Still send and receive. Received cards are displayed around the fireplace mantle. It's part of the Christmas spirit!

I was always fascinated by Christmas Cards when I was growing up in South Africa. They always had pictures of people bundled up in the snow and we were usually planning to spend Christmas on the beach or at the pool in sweltering temperatures. But although I'm guilty of doing it the new (and lazy way) myself, it was a tradition that I did enjoy.

I always send to closest family, and to those who send to me and a few others who don't, especially the elderly and ill. Some people want to get away from the tradition, so I respect that. Still, it's nice and uplifting to receive them.

Since I have lots of time on my hands these days, I considered getting back into the tradition. After evaluating my budget, I had to change my mind; but I do love the tradition and wish I could participate.

I send about 100 every year; always a picture card and always the day after Thanksgiving from Panama City Beach FL.

We send Christmas cards to and receive Christmas cards from friends and relatives from Florida to Alaska, and love doing it. At our church, we put Christmas cards to members (along with a special offering) in a Lottie Moon Christmas Offering mail box, and they are delivered in-church to the receipients. The proceeds for these deliveries go to support the Lottie Moon missionaries.
