Gwinnett Police Identify Couple in Homicide-Suicide

Gwinnett Police identified the victims in a tragic homicide-suicide Tuesday (April 10) evening in the parking lot at the Gwinnett Place Commons office complex as an Asian Duluth couple Charles Junn, 45, and Sylvia Junn, 44.

Sylvia Junn shot herself when confronted by officers arriving at the scene about 7:30 p.m. after shooting her husband and wounding a woman that he apparently had an affair with in the past, according to Cpl. Jake Smith. The police investigation also revealed that all three worked in the office park on Satellite Boulevard in unincorporated Duluth, Smith said.

The identity of the 51-year-old female victim, who was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, is being withheld by police. Initially described as Hispanic, she also is Asian and believed to be a resident of Gwinnett County, according to Smith’s report. She was reported in critical condition after emergency surgery.

After shooting both victims, Sylvia Junn sped away in her vehicle running over her husband, then returned to the office park, Smith said.

Officers responding to reports of a person hit by a car and gunshots, encountered Sylvia Junn armed with a handgun standing near the two bodies in the parking lot. She refused orders to drop her weapon and shot herself in the head, he reported. 

The Junns are survived by their 16-year-old son.
