Police Report Released on Greenleaf Drive Shooting
Police are still looking for the suspect in the Nov. 28 shooting of a man on Greenleaf Drive. A recently released report adds more details.
A recently released police report suggests that all a suspected armed robber got after shooting a man at his home was a wallet, and that the victim had seen the assailant earlier at a nearby gas station.
According to the Lilburn Police Department report, officers were dispatched to a home in the 5300 Greenleaf Drive at approximately 7:11 p.m. on Nov. 28 for "trouble unknown." While en route, officers learned that a male suspect was in front of the residence waving a gun.
Officers were then told that a male subject -- later identified as Luis Salazar -- had been shot, and that the suspect -- described as a slender black male wearing a white T-shirt and black plants -- was seen fleeing on foot behind homes on Greenleaf Drive and headed toward U.S. Highway 29.
When police arrived, Salazar was lying in his driveway beneath his pickup truck. The victim told police that the suspect stole his wallet.
However, Salazar added that he did not know the man, and had just met him at Citgo gas station at the intersection of U.S. Highway 29 and Inland Way.
Salazar was transported to the Gwinnett County Medical Center for his injuries.
Police also interviewed Salazar's wife, who said she was tending to their younger children and did not hear or see anything regarding the incident.
An witness said that he saw Salazar arrive home about 7 p.m., and that he saw the suspect walking down Greenleaf Drive about the same time. The witness then said he saw the suspect confront the victim, and that's when he heard a gunshot and saw the muzzle flash go off.
K-9 officers later arrived to help the search for the suspect, but he was not found. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (or GBI) also arrived to the scene.
Evidenced collected at the scene included a pair of work boots, a pair of gloves and fingerprints. A shell casing also was recovered from the scene.
A forensic artist was able to create a sketch of the suspect, and now police are asking for help in identifying and locating him.
