Editor's Note: Lilburn Patch initially published this feature last Memorial Day weekend. We thought it would be a good idea to update it.
Every cross has a name.
The approximately 70 crosses that line Lilburn's entry way from Lawrenceville Highway, and a stretch of Main Street in Old Town, memorialize many area veterans who are no longer with us.

Every year, Lilburn, like hundreds of towns nationwide, plants crosses draped with American flags. The crosses bear the names of those who paid the ultimate price for freedom.
In building this feature, Lilburn Patch stopped to read every name and snap a picture.

What a wonderful and thoughtful thing to do and what a creative way to use the infinite "stretch" of cyberspace to bring these memorials right before the eyes and into the hearts of all your readers. For many, I'm sure this story will be a keeper.

The crosses were done as an Eagle project by Jess Woodward of Troop 555 The troop was sponsored by John Wesley United Methodist Church. The trrop is no longer in existence.
My son, Scott Simmons , did his Eagke project there and so did Stephen Ball. Scott built the white picket fence that used to be at the entrance of the park. When the park was redesigned , his project was moved to the front of the Wynne Russell house. Stephen' s project was fixing thd erosion issue by the creek. Deanna Simmons

Deanna, so the white fence in the front of the Wynne Russell house is the work of your son? I love that house and have tried to bring some life back to it by holding some events of the Lilburn Woman's Club there. We clean it and host a holiday event there for the last few years. Lots of history and real treasure for Lilburn. Thanks for filling me in on the fence.

Yes it was Scott's Eagle project. I think there is still a brass plaque on it with the date. How are you Mandy?
