Wanted Alleged Shooter Arrested in Norcross
Jerome Melvin Carter was wanted for four felony charges, including armed robbery and aggravated assault.
A man wanted for allegedly robbing and shooting someone outside Krystal in unincorporated Norcross was arrested Tuesday, according to a press release from the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office Fugitive Unit apprehended Jerome Melvin Carter, 38, on April 24 after a deputy located Carter at the intersection of Old Norcross Road and Ingram Road. He attempted to outrun the deputies and hide, but he was located and tazed after ignoring commands to stop, sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Sean Smith said.
He was arrested for four felony charges including armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Carter is accused of shooting his victim, 39, in the chest from close range outside Krystal at 1700 Indian Trail Lilburn Road around 11 p.m. March 15, according to the police report and press release. Carter also allegedly robbed him of $600, as detailed in the prosecutor's affidavit.
Police found the victim on the ground in the Krystal drive-thru with bullet wound in his side. He told police that he didn't know who shot him, but he later gave a description of the suspect.
Carter was booked in the Gwinnett County Jail for the four felony charges.
