Woman Arrested for False Battery Report

Inside the Police Reports: The woman admitted in court to lying about her boyfriend's abuse.

A Lilburn woman was arrested and charged with making a false report of battery last month.

According to the police report of the original Nov. 5 incident, the 23-year-old woman had told Gwinnett County police that she was drinking with her boyfriend, 27, at a local bar. They began arguing and then left to go home, where their argument only continued.

She had told police that her boyfriend threw her to the ground by grabbing her arms, causing noticeable bruises and redness. He also grabbed her by the hair to spin her, she said.

According to the girlfriend, he eventually got into his friend's car to leave. She picked up a leaf blower from her garage and hit the car with it.

Officers found the boyfriend at Will Henry's, a bar in Mountain Park off Rockbridge Road. When interviewed, he never claimed hitting her; the girlfriend attempted to hit him many times, and he pushed her to try to avoid being hit, but that was all. When she hit him with the leaf blower, he said, he wasn't in a car at all, and the blower cut his wrist. He told police that he eventually walked away on foot.

That night, police observed a cut on his wrist at the scene, but officers believed at the time that he was the primary aggressor. He was arrested for battery that evening.

However, later in court, the girlfriend admitted that she lied about the incident, said Cpl. Jack Smith with Gwinnett Police. A county deputy took the warrant, and she was arrested Nov. 23 for making a false report of a crime.
