Patch visited Cub Scouts Pack 504 for its annual Raingutter Regatta, as well its food drive for the Lilburn Co-op.

The Cub Scout who propelled his boat the quickest, using his own breath and a straw, was named winner in each age group. Touching the boats with the straws was strictly prohibited, and some of the races had to be re-started because of it.

Like all Cub Scout groups, Pack 504 is always in need of donations, as well. It is participating in several fundraisers that the community can help with.

Christmas Tree Pick Up:

This effort will take place in January. For a minimum donation of $5, the Cub Scouts will arrive at Lilburn-area homes to pick up Christmas trees on two days in January. They will then take the trees to be recycled into landscaping material.

To schedule time to have a tree picked up, contact John Weber at georgiawebers@yahoo.com.

Firewood Sale:

The pack is also seasoned firewood for $5 a bundle or $9 for 2 bundles. To purchase firewood, please contact Daniel Brant at (678) 773-1409 or daniel.brant@comcast.net or Julie Weber at (678) 463-3133 or georgiawebers@yahoo.com.

Fall Popcorn Sales:

As cookies are to Girl Scouts, popcorn is to Cub Scouts. The pack has just completed its popcorn season. But, check with anyone listed in this story for more information.

Where does the money go?

All of the funds raised from the Christmas tree toss and the firewood sales come directly back to the pack. The funds that the pack raises help with scouting activities, such as its January caving trip to Raccoon Mountain, and to help cover the cost of awards, belt loops and patches.
