Cub Scouts Have Fun, Help Community

Dozens of excited young boys recently participated in Cub Scout Pack 504'sannual Raingutter Regatta, a boat racing event that tests their building abilities, as well as sportsmanship.

The Cub Scout who propelled his boat the quickest, using his own breath and a straw, was named winner in each age group. Touching the boats with the straws was strictly prohibited, and some of the races had to be re-started because of it.

By the end of the night, which also included adult skits and costumes, the winner were:

• Tigers (1st grade): Victor Saldivar
• Wolves (2nd grade): Brycen Sterling
• Bears (3rd grade): Will Weber
• Webelos I & II (4th and 5th grades): Alex Parkman

In addition, to children's race, families also brought in non-persiable food items and clothing for donation to the Lilburn Cooperative Ministry, which serves those in need in the immediate Gwinnett County area.

Upcoming, the pack will participate in the Lilburn Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 1, and they will be caroling at a nursing home in the area, as well.

Like all Cub Scout groups, Pack 504 is always in need of donations, as well. It is participating in several fundraisers that the community can help with.

Christmas Tree Pick Up:

This effort will take place in January. For a minimum donation of $5, the Cub Scouts will arrive at Lilburn-area homes to pick up Christmas trees on two days in January. They will then take the trees to be recycled into landscaping material.

Firewood Sale:

Fall Popcorn Sales:

As cookies are to Girl Scouts, popcorn is to Cub Scouts. The pack has just completed its popcorn season. But, check with anyone listed in this story for more information.

Where does the money go?

All of the funds raised from the Christmas tree toss and the firewood sales come directly back to the pack. The funds that the pack raises help with scouting activities, such as its January caving trip to Raccoon Mountain, and to help cover the cost of awards, belt loops and patches.
