Dream House Remains Open, Suspends Critical Program

Dream House for Medically Fragile Children is still hoping to raise enough money to keep the center open and to restore critical programs.

Officials at have said that the board is in the middle of restructuring, so that a complete closure does not beset the nonprofit in the next few weeks. Already Dream House had to suspend its transitional home in Lilburn. 

However, the nonprofit's Family for Keeps education and training and Bridging the Gap, a privately funded program that provides needed resources for families and caregivers of medically fragile children. Over the years, Dream House has helped more than 1,000 children through its various programs.

"Dream House is now in urgent need of donations to continue their important programs of providing quality transition care training and education to the families and caregivers of these most deserving children," the nonprofit said in a recent press statement.

DREAM HOUSE TIMELINE (partial):

2001 - Dream House for Medically Fragile Children, Inc. is formed to assist families and caregivers to increase quality of life and sustain care in a home-setting for children. The nonprofit says the cost there are "at a fraction of the cost of hospital and nursing home care."

2008 - Dream House opens a transition care home for six months to create an "in-home" care center in addition to the education, training and care services provided through the Family For Keeps and Bridging the Gap programs.

2009-2011 - Dream House re-opens its transition care home, and continues other programs.

Aug 18, 2011 - Operations are suspended at the transition care home due to funding downturn.

Present Day - Family For Keeps and Bridging the Gap programs continue to provide education, training, and care for families and caregivers.
