Welcome to Tuesday. Here are some things to know today.

The weather: The high will be a pleasant 68 degrees and partly sunny, but with a 20 percent chance of rain. The low tonight will be around 54, and the chance of rain increases to 50 percent.

Gas prices: The lowest price for Lilburn reported to www.georgiagasprices.com on Monday was $3.62 for a gallon of regular (at Kroger, 4155 Lawrenceville Highway at Beaver Ruin and at two other places), and the highest price was $3.75 (at Shell, 5474 Lawrenceville Hwy at Rockbridge Rd and at two other places.) 

Nylon. It’s the birthday of the artificial fiber, created by chemist Wallace Carothers at a DuPont research lab in Delaware, on this day in 1935. Nylon went on to become a staple of modern fabrics, muscling aside silk and cotton in many products. Carothers suffered a spiraling decline of depression and stays at psychiatric hospitals and in 1937 committed suicide in a hotel room by drinking cyanide.

Economy. Georgia’s Department of Agriculture was the first of its kind in the nation when it was founded in 1874. Gov. James Smith signed the bill that started the agency, part of an effort to boost a state economy that had been ailing since the Civil War ended in 1865.

Spring. Time to clear out the clutter and put it up for sale. There’s a group yard sale and craft fair coming March 3 at Best Friends Park on Jimmy Carter Blvd in Norcross.
