Photos, please. This was the day when NASA’s interstellar probe Voyager 2 came closest to Uranus, flying within about 50,000 miles, taking detailed photos and discovering not one but 10 moons of the seventh planet from the Sun. It was 1986, nine years into the mission that continues today. Voyager 2 flew on a track past the orbit of Pluto and is now bound for the far edge of the Sun’s gravitational field, still sending back science data as it heads for deep space outside our solar system.

Happy birthday … Neil Diamond. The singer, songwriter and rock hall of famer was born in 1941 and built a career spanning five decades. He started out writing songs in the 1960s that were covered by acts including The Monkees and Elvis Presley, then branched out in the 1970s into the solo career most of us know him for. Almost everybody has a favorite Neil Diamond song: maybe “Kentucky Woman,” “Sweet Caroline,” or “Solitary Man”? What’s yours? Tell is in the comment box.
