Five Things to Know Today, March 20

Guaranteed to tell you something you didn't know yesterday.

Welcome to Tuesday. Here are some things to know as you head into the day.

The weather: Will be unchanged, it seems. The high will again be about 85, and it'll be mostly sunny. The low tonight will be around 58, the National Weather Service says.

Gas prices: The range in Lilburn is still from $3.69 to $3.79 in Lilburn for a gallon of regular, according to reports to www.georgiagasprices.com. As of 9 p.m. Monday night, the lowest price can be had at Marathon, at 505 Pleasant Hill Road and at four other places. The highest price was at Citgo, 5355 Lawrenceville Highway, and at Texaco, 4785 Lawrenceville Highway.

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes: Today is the Spring Equinox, when the Northern Hemisphere reverses its winter tilt away from the sun and leans back far enough to bring the sun’s position north of the equator. The sun was due to cross the celestial equator, an imaginary point far above the terrestrial equator, at 1:14 a.m. Eastern time this morning. Thus begins spring. Welcome!

Hollywood in Georgia: Two birthdays today that highlight Georgia’s ties to the film industry: Director Spike Lee was born in Atlanta in 1957, and actress Holly Hunter in Conyers a year later. Both are rich in awards. Among them: Hunter won the Academy Award for best actress in 1993’s “The Piano,” and Lee received an Academy nomination for “Do The Right Thing” in 1989.
