Five Things to Know Today, Nov. 29

Guaranteed to tell you something you didn't know yesterday.

Welcome to a wintry Tuesday. Here are some things to know about the day.

The weather: Snow and rain are in the forecast today, but the high will be about 40 degrees, so no sledding just yet. It probably will be windy. The low tonight will be about 34 degrees.

Gas prices: Prices reported to www.georgiagasprices.com for a gallon of regular in Lilburn in the past 24 hours ranged from $3.07 (at QuickTrip, 4900 Stone Mountain Hwy near Stone Drive) to $3.16 (at Gulf, 127 Arcado Road at N River Drive). The average price in the state is $3.19, and in the U.S., it's $3.295, almost six cents less than a week ago, according to AAA.

Orion: It's cloudy now, but when the night sky clears later this week, there'll be good evening views of Orion the Hunter. Perhaps the most easily recognized constellation, it rises a little bit earlier every night as the Earth changes postion relative to the stars. At this time of year, Orion should be up in the eastern sky by 8 or 9 p.m. and reach its highest point after midnight.

Homes. The nation's first public housing projects opened in Atlanta in
1935 and President Franklin D. Roosevelt visited on Nov. 29 to officially dedicate Techwood Homes, the project for white families, and visit University Homes, the one for black families. Both projects replaced urban slums with new, planned apartment complexes designed to be healthy and affordable for working families. At Techwood, a three-room apartment rented for $16.40 a month, including electricity.

Click for joy. Every day is something special, and this one is National Electronic Greetings Day to honor those e-cards and emails that are just so much easier to send than going to a mail box. So greet someone today! Gentlemen and gentlewomen, if you're reading this, you have the technology.
