Five Things to Know Today, Nov. 4

Guaranteed to tell you something you didn't know yesterday.

Welcome to Friday and the start of the weekend. Here are some things to know as you start out.

The weather: That's it for rain, for now. It'll be sunny today, with a high of about 63 degrees, the National Weather Service says. The low tonight will be about 40.

Gas prices aren't moving, at least not upward. The average price of a gallon of regular in Georgia is $3.345, and nationwide it's $3.426. Gas prices reported to www.georgiagasprices.com in the last 24 hours ranged from $3.23 (at Murphy USA, 3950 Lawrenceville Hwy NW near Lester Road) to $3.38 (at Shell, 4975 Lawrenceville Hwy at Holly Ridge Drive).

Lights, action. Two movies are opening this weekend. Tower Heist is a thriller with Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy as working guys at a luxury condo trying to get their money, plus a little more, back from a billionaire who lives there. See Brett Martin's video review on Patch tomorrow. There's also seasonal fare, of a sort: A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas is the latest installment in Harold and Kumar's stoner adventures that reunites them at the holidays in search of a replacement for a Christmas tree that went up in smoke.

Run for it. The Gwinnett Parks Foundation 5K Road Race is Saturday morning at Tribble Mill Park in Lawrenceville, incluidng a Canine and Carriage Walk. Proceeds from the 3rd annual event benefit the Parks Foundation, a non-profit group of volunteers who work to support and expand the county's parks and greenspace programs.

Mummy! Archeologist Howard Carter discovered the buried stone entrance to the tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt on Nov. 4, 1922. Weeks of excavation and exploration followed before Carter opened the secret Burial Chamber in February 1923, uncovering treasures buried for 3,000 years, including the sarcophagus and gold mask of the young pharaoh. The tomb and its relics sparked a renewed public interest in ancient Egypt around the world.
