Five Things to Know Today, Nov. 7

Guaranteed to tell you something you didn't know yesterday.

Welcome to Monday and a new work week. Here are some things to know today.

The weather: It'll be sunny, with a high of almost 71 degrees today, the National Weather Service says. The low tonight will be about 45.

Gas prices are a little lower, with the average price of a gallon of unleaded at $3.321 in Georgia and $3.411 nationally. Prices reported to www.georgiagasprices.com for Lilburn in the past 24 hours ranged from $3.21 (at Quiktrip, 4900 Stone Mountain Hwy near Stone Drive) to $3.39 (at Texaco, 4785 Lawrenceville Hwy at Indian Trail Lilburn Road).

October revolution. A popular uprising by an economically suffering public against a corrupt ruling elite changes one of the world's largest nations forever. That was in 1917 in Russia and the October Revolution ultimately ushered in the Soviet Union. Click on the link to see why the revolt that began Nov. 7 is called the October Revolution.

Speaking of history. Read about it much? Then you may want to talk over the lessons with the Gwinnett library's History Book Club http://lib.gwinnettpl.org/HistoryBookClub, which meets once a month at the county museum in Lawrenceville. This month they're reading "Last Call: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition" by Daniel Okrent.

Great Jupiter. Look at the eastern sky at dusk tonight, and you'll see a very bright object just below and to the left of the waxing moon. That's Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system. It'll move closer to the moon for the next few nights. Jupiter is easy to see because it's the third brightest object in the night sky, after the Moon and Venus.
