Welcome to Monday, a new week and Columbus Day. Here are some things to know today.

The weather: Better take an umbrella today - there's a 50 percent chance of rain. It'll be cloudy, in any case, with a high of about 68 degrees. The low tonight will be around 60 degrees.

Gas prices: For the first time in quite a while, the national average for a gallon of regular is higher than the previous day, but only by one-tenth of a cent, at $3.396. Too early to say what that means. In Georgia, the average is $3.246. Prices for Lilburn reported to www.georgiagasprices.com in the past 24 hours ranged from $3.07 (at Shell, 32 Killian Hill Road at Lilburn Industrial Way) to $3.21 (at Shell, 5414 Five Forks Trickum Road at Rockbridge Road.

That Puppet Guy! Nationally known puppeteer Lee Bryan, "That Puppet Guy," is presenting a show at two branches of our county libraries today, Lawrenceville and Suwanee. Bryan blends different kinds of puppets, live vocals and other show biz treats to put together a memorable experience for pre-k and older kids. The play is "The Big, Bad, Little Red, Pig Show" and it shows at 11 a.m. Monday at the Lawrenceville branch and 3 p.m. at Suwanee.

Happy Columbus Day: Gwinnett County Public Schools are off for the holiday. Enjoy the lighter commute without school buses. If you're lucky enough to have the time to spend the day with your school-age kids, there's lots to do, from to , and of course there's the Pumpkin Festival and lots more at Stone Mountain Park.

Lilburn City Council meets tonight at 7:30. The work session begins at 6:30. On the agenda is a recommendation that the city loan $40,000 to the Downtown Check Patch later today for the full agenda.
