Five Things to Know Today, Oct. 21

Guaranteed to tell you something you didn't know yesterday.

Welcome to Friday and congratulations for having made it to the end of the work week. Here are some things to know as you head into the day and the weekend.

The weather: Sunny, with a high of about 63 degrees. The low tonight will be around 38. You might want to think about finding those gloves you put away last March before heading to that football game tonight.

Gas prices: The average price in Georgia for a gallon of regular is $3.420, according to AAA, almost a cent higher than yesterday. Nationwide, it's unchanged at $3.474. For Lilburn, prices reported to www.georgiagasprices.com for the past 24 hours ranged from $3.36 (at QuikTrip, 4900 Stone Mountain Hwy) to $3.43 (at Shell, 775 Beaver Ruin Road at Burns Road).

Dracula. That's right, the ultimate vampire, just in time for Halloween, in a new stage version at the New London Theatre in Snellville. It's dark and funny and melodramatic and made to keep you thrilled in the dark ahead of the ghostly holiday. Friday and Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

What's for dinner? It's the International Day of the Nacho in this country and in Mexico, where the tasty pile of tortillas and fillings was invented in the 1940s in a city on the Texas border by a guy named Nacho. Really. Enjoy in his honor.

Festivals! There are still quite a few this weekend, including the Snellville Fall Festival on Saturday, and more Halloween events than you can shake a bag of candy at. One good place to check for a metro-area overview is Occupy My Family-Atlanta. No, not the protestors. It's  a blog specialized in listing free or low-cost things to do with the family, and looks pretty comprehensive. Tell us if you find it useful.
