Five Things to Know Today, Oct. 3

Guaranteed to tell you something you didn't know yesterday.

Welcome to Monday and a new week. Here are some things to know as you head into them.

The weather: It'll be sunny, with a breezy high of around 73 degrees. The low tonight will be a crisp 45 degrees, more or less.

Where were you? Two memorable biggies occured on Oct. 3 in (some of) our lifetimes: This was the day in 1990 that East and West Germany formally united, sealing the end of the Cold War division of Europe just under a year after the Berlin Wall fell to the push of democratic change across the Soviet bloc. It's also the day in 1995 when O.J. Simpson was acquitted after that trial you couldn't avoid on TV. Lots of material for reflecting on where you were when either or both events came down. Share your memories in the comments!

Plan ahead for royalty: It's only Monday, but if you're a dad you can look forward to the Princess and Me Father/Daughter Dance rushing towards us on Friday night. Register here for the Oct. 7 event run by the Gwinnett County parks department. It's at the historic courthouse in Lawrenceville from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Hug a techie: It's National Techies Day, a commemoration apparently started during the glory days of the tech bubble pre-2000; it calls on us to appreciate the people who keep the IT going. So, if your computer hasn't crashed yet today, say thanks!

In Lilburn, prices reported to www.geogiagasprices.com for the past 24 hours ranged from $3.17 (at Citgo, 331 Rockbridge Road at Lawrenceville Highway) to $3.25 (at Chevron, 4784 Highway 29 at Killian Hill Road).
