Five Things to Know Today, Sept. 22

Bye, bye, Summer.

Welcome to Thursday, the last official day of summer. Here are five things to know today.

The weather: Don't forget your umbrella today. There's a 60 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service, mainly between 2 - 8 p.m. Temps may reach 82. The low is creeping up -- the thermometer may not drop below 62 tonight.

Gas prices are still heading downward. The national average is $3.570, according to AAA. In Georgia, it's $3.437. In Lilburn, prices reported to www.georgiagasprices.com in the past 24 hours ranged from $3.29 (at Kroger, 4155 Lawrenceville Hwy at Beaver Ruin) to $3.39 (at Shell, 612 Rockbridge Road SW at Lilburn Stone Mountain Road).

Think HOV lanes are strict? Atlanta banned driving on Sundays to save gas on this day in 1918, as part of the national conservation effort during World War I. There were no tickets, but police had orders to collect names of violators for public shaming in the newspaper.
