Holiday Spotlight: Dream House for Medically Fragile Children

The holidays are a good time to remember local charities that may need your help. Today we spotlight Dream House for Medically Fragile Children.

This Lilbrun-area nonprofit continues to assist children who have very critical needs, despite challenging times.

This nonprofit seeks to assist children who are deemed medically fragile, and their families with educational workshops, financial help (through gift cards for food and other items), and other supportive services.

Children diagnosed as medically fragile by doctors may have a chronic health conditions such as diabetes, traumatic brain injury, or cerebral palsy; be a transplant recipient and require special support; and have limited mobility due to paralysis or chronic disease.

Laura Moore, along with assistance from her husband, Mike, founded Dream House for Medically Fragile Children, Inc, in 2001. Since then the nonprofit has helped more than 1,000 children in 51 Georgia counties.

Last year, a lack of money forced the nonprofit to suspend critical services while it reorgnized to prevent the complete closure. Read that story on Snellville Patch.

This year, the program has continue to try raising money through annual events, such as the Ninth Annual Dream House Golf Classic hosted by Michael Palmer, a tight end with the Atlanta Falcons in May.
