Lilburn Charity to Benefit From Book Launch

The Lewy Body Dementia Association of Lilburn will receive proceeds from a new book.

The Lewy Body Dementia Association of Lilburn will be a recipient of the proceeds of a book written by the CEO of Trusted Memory Care, an organization dedicated to bringing awareness to quality of care issues.

The Lilburn nonprofit is one of four to benefit from author Bethany Porter's  “625 Days – Memory Care From The Inside” in a month-long campaign. Each week, the book will be sold in honor of a charity that benefits individuals with memory impairments. Half of all proceeds from Tuesday, May 8, and Wednesday, May will go to the LBDA.

The author’s work in the field of Memory Care provided a personal, life-changing experience working with individuals with Lewy Body Dementia and other memory impairments, Trusted Memory Care said in a press release.

"We wanted the launch to be something special – something that would benefit the greatest number of people," Porter said. "I can’t imagine doing this without including the LBDA. What they do to promote awareness for Lewy Body Dementia sufferers is remarkable. I hope we can always be a contributing part of what they do.”

Lewy Body Dementia affects an estimated 1.3 million individuals and their families in the United States. Because LBD symptoms can closely resemble other more commonly known diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, it is currently widely underdiagnosed.

The Lewy Body Dementia Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Lilburn dedicated to raising awareness of the Lewy Body Dementias, supporting patients, their families and caregivers, and promoting scientific advances. The Association's purposes are charitable, educational, and scientific.

The book, which is available in both paperback and as e-books at Amazon.com, "is an eye-opening view at quality of care issues facing memory impaired individuals living in the Assisted Living environment in the U.S.," according to Trusted Memory Care. "Written memoir-style, the author takes readers on a journey through the 625 days she operated a Memory Care home in Pennsylvania."
