Lilburn Consignment Store to Host Charity Event for Animal Rescue Organization

Back By Popular Demand help to bring more awareness to animal welfare, while highlighting the work of animal rescue group Fighting for Dawn.

A Lilburn consignment shop is hosting a special event this week to support animal welfare and to bring more awareness to the cause

The event takes place 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. on June 13 at Back By Popular Demand, located at 4915 Lawrenceville Highway. Then business is partnering with Fighting for Dawn, an Atlanta-based animal rescue organization, for the event.

Shop owner Melissa Baxter said she wanted to host the event in Lilburn because she is "in awe" of what Fighting for Dawn has been able to do. The organization got its start after founder Denise Stubbs saw an animal abandoned in a Walmart parking lot.

Stubbs decided she had to do something.

"Needless to say she brought her home, named her Dawn and slowly brought her back to life, love and a normal playful dog," Baxter said in an email to Patch.

Since then Stubbs has visited shelters to rescue animals with little to no chance of being adopted. She brings the animals home, and helps nurture them back to health.

"She has done all this on her own dime and with the support and help of family and friends," Baxter said.

Baxter added: "She is an amazing person actually doing what many of us talk about doing and deserves to be recognized."

With the June 13 event at Back By Popular Demand, Baxter hopes to not only highlight the work of Fighting for Dawn, but also to emphasize that rescuing animals is something that everyone can do.
