Lilburn Relay Rally Teams Raising Critical Funds

There is one week left until the Lilburn Relay Rally. So, where do the teams stand in fundraising, and how can you help?

With one week left until the Lilburn Relay Rally, participants already have raised more than $10,000.

There are a total of 10 teams and 141 participants, so far, according to the Lilburn Relay Rally event page. Exactly $10,305 has been raised, as of 11 p.m., April 18.

Here's a look at the teams, latest totals and participants' motivation, as detailed on the Lilburn Relay Rally website. Included in the list below are teams that have raised $250 or more.

Women in Action -- 49 team members, $4,020 raised (80 percent to $5,000 goal)

  • Members of this team include: Gail Zarnik, Jackie Thornberry, Diana Preston, former mayor of Lilburn; Pat Gabilondo, president of the Lilburn Woman's Club; Pat Swan; Sandy McGuire; Nancy Chilcoat; and Patricia Biemiller. Each of these ladies have raised more than $100.
  • Why Jackie Thornberry participates: "I Relay because I want to see an end to cancer during my lifetime. Relay gives me the unique opportunity to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and support the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving mission by fighting back against a disease that has already taken too much."

St. Andrews Presbyterian Church -- 11 team members, $2,180 raised (96 percent to $2,250 goal)

  • Members of this team include: Fran Hibbert, Debbie Brookins, Phyllis Bearden and Kathy Nimmo. Each of these ladies has raised more than $100.
  • Why Phyllis Bearden participates: "Because cancer has touched so many of my friends and then took my oldest brother Jerry this year. When I was diagnosed and had surgery and radiation for breast cancer a little over a year ago, I was dumbfounded that cancer happened to me. I want to prevent that shock for as many people as possible."

Mountain Park United Methodist -- 34 team members, $2,065 raised (More than 100 percent of $1,500 goal.)

  • Members of this team include: Thomas Reinmiller, Mark Gibson, Joyce Trivieri, David Beavin, Gerald Bozeman, Laurie Bozeman, Sarah Fleet and Melissa Paurowski. These participants have rasied more than $100 each.

SMWC Crazy Daisies -- 17 team members, $595 raised (More than 100 percent of $500 goal.)

  • Members of this team include: Barb Hess and Barbara Fuller, who each have raised more than $100.
  • Why Barbara Fuller participates: "I am walking in memory of my mother Corine Sealock who ran a brave race with three different kinds of cancer. I am walking in memory of a friend that just died with cancer Fred Johnston. I am walking for everyone who has had cancer,have cancer or may get it in the future. I want to make a difference in someones life by walking. Together, we have the power to help create a world where cancer can no longer claim another year of anyone's life."

Jack & Jill's -- 8 team members, $350 raised (23 percent of $1,500 goal)

  • Members of this team include: Jack Staples and Debbie Hale, who both have raised more than $100.
  • Why Jack Staples participates: "Cancer has affected my life in a number of ways: I lost my wife (Karen) in 2002 due to breast cancer, I (Jack) had prostrate cancer in 2006 and went through treatment, my sister (Jill) has fought a brave battle against cancer, my sister (Bobbie) is currently having radiation treatments for breast cancer. The only way we are going to win this battle is for all of us to stick together and encourage each other and do everything we can to help finance the cure for the disease.  Thanks to all of you who will participate in this event.  Every little bit helps."

Eddie's Automotive -- 2 team members, $250 raised (18 percent of $1,500 goal)

  • Members of this team include Wanda Price and ., which donated the $250 raised so far.
  • Why Wanda Price participates: For several years Eddie and I have been supporters of Relay for Life.  Like Many of you we have been touched by cancer.  We have had close friends, family members and customers who have suffered from the ravages of cancer. We will walk and sponsor again this year. Come and help us support the fight to put an end to cancer and to support the ones in the middle of the fight."
