Get Out: A Look at What to Do This Weekend

Beer tastings, Memorial Day and free movies.

Anne B. Jones Book Signing & Reception

When/Where: Saturday, May 28, 1 p.m.-4 p.m., The Little Shop of Arts & Antiques, 94 Main Street, Lilburn.

Why Go: Author Anne B. Jones is having a book signing and will talk about her latest creation, "Tides of Fear," a murder-suspense thriller about bodies found on the shores of  St. Simons Island. Jones, along with author Jackie Lee Miles,Gwinnett Daily Post Columnist Susan Larson and the Georgia Poetry Society, will also be back July 15 and 16 at The Little Shop for a mini-writing conference filled with writing lectures, Q&A sessions, and a mix-and-mingle.

Beer Tasting at Three Blind Mice

When/Where: Sunday, May 29, 6 p.m., Three Blind Mice, 1066 Killian Hill Road, Lilburn.

Why Go: Sunday alcohol sales may not be available yet in the state of Georgia, but it's still legal by the drink. Every Sunday, TBM offers its guests its beer-tasting special: six beers for $6, and they go perfect with the restaurant's delectable entrees.

Pricing: $6 per guest.

Soca Medik 2011

When/Where: Friday, May 27, 9 p.m.-4 a.m., Flames Sports Bar & Grill, 2671 Centerville Highway, Snellville.

Why Go: Looking for some island jams for Memorial Day weekend? Pak Entertainment and Flames Sports Bar & Grill present a night of soca (calypso and soul), plus hip-hop, reggae and R&B. DJs and music providers for the evening include Red Lotus, DJ Courtney C and Madd Flava.

Pricing: Free and no cover.

Stone Mountain City-Wide Yard Sale and Movies on Main

When/Where: Saturday, May 28, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. for the yard sale and 8 p.m-11 p.m. for the movie, First Baptist Church of Stone Mountain and Main, 5306 Mimosa Drive, Stone Mountain.

Why Go: It's a shame Piedmont Park's Screen on the Green won't be returning this year, but Stone Mountain Village is actually gaining one. Free for the whole family, the movie series kicks off this Saturday with "Shrek Forever After." Refreshments will be available for guests to purchase, but movie-goers are welcome to bring their own food, too. Come earlier in the day for a community-wide yard sale, too, as the city expects many vendors to sign up and lots of people to come.

Memorial Day Weekend at Stone Mountain

When/Where: Saturday-Monday, May 28-30, Stone Mountain Park, 1000 Robert E. Lee Drive, Stone Mountain. 

Why Go: Go big with celebrating Memorial Day weekend at the big rock. It's newest attraction, Yogi Bear 4D Adventure, will be opening for the first time, and other classics such as the Sky Hike, Summit Skyride and minigolf will be available, too. Top off the night with the park's new Lasershow Spectacular, debuting Saturday in Mountainvision with multi-dimensional effects, greater-than-before heights and a special tribute to the troops.

Pricing: Those 12 years and older cost $27 for a One-Day Adventure Pass, and kids 3 to 11 cost $21. Free for veterans and active duty military for Memorial Day Weekend, and their family members get special deals, too. For more details, click here.

Memorial Day Remembrance

When/Where: Saturday, May 28, 10 a.m.-noon, Eternal Hills Funeral Home, 3594 Highway 78, Snellville.

Why Go: Remember the soldiers with the annual Memorial Day service held at Eternal Hills. American Legion Post 232, the funeral home and Boy Scout Troop 50 will host the brief ceremony and tradition of placing flags atop all 1,500 veterans' graves at Eternal Hills.
