Where Do You Draw the Line? Factors to Consider When Redistricting County Commission and School Board Districts

In Georgia, in conjunction with the congressional reapportionment — a process by which the congressional seats are moved to states with population growth — the General Assembly also redraws all legislative districts.

You also probably know that the legislative delegation redraws the county district lines as well.

It is anticipated that the Governor will call upon the General Assembly to also redraw the local elected office lines during the special session this August.

The Census has shown that Gwinnett has experienced a large population growth during the past 10 years (especially in the northern portions of the county).  Thus, the current county commission district and school board district lines must be redrawn to accommodate the shifts in population. (By law, they are now deemed unconstitutional.)

I wanted to seek some preliminary comments from the general public in the Lilburn-Mountain Park area.

Currently, Lilburn (area code 30047 and vicinity) is split between three district commissioners. How do you think the maps should be drawn? Where are the "communities of interests" that should be kept in the same district?
