Business Spotlight: Beaver Crossing Animal Hospital

Each week we feature a business from our hometown of Lilburn. This week, learn more about Beaver Crossing Animal Hospital.

Dr. Michael Smith started working with animals in 1989. Smith became a vet due to his love of animals, of interacting with people and of science. In 1991 he started working at Beaver Crossing Animal Hospital and now is the sole owner of the facility. Smith and his staff offer the full range of veterinary services including exams, general healthcare, surgery and boarding. I recently sat down with Michael to talk about his business.

Patch: What is the best aspect of owning Beaver Crossing Animal Hospital?

Michael: The ability to do things the way I want them done. Quality control, if you will. Being able to treat people and pets the way you want them to be treated, and making sure that everyone is cared for the way I think they should.

Patch: What is the most challenging aspect of owning your own veterinary hospital?

Michael: Keeping that quality control. We have an extremely good staff here so even the most challenging aspect is fairly easy to do right now.

Patch: What makes Beaver Crossing Animal Hospital unique?

Michael: Our client and patient care. The way we do things here. We like to treat our clients and our patients like they're a part of our family, which they are. We appreciate them, and when they leave here, we want them to feel good about coming to us. We know that our clients' pets are part of their family, and we want them to feel like we treated them in that way.

Patch: What makes the Lilburn community special?

Michael: Lilburn has become a fairly stable community in the last few years. It's not as transient as it once was, so we tend to see the same people. We see them grow, their families grow, and it makes us a closer community than those around us.
