Business Spotlight: Craftmasters Restoration & Upholstery

Each week we feature a business from our hometown of Lilburn. This week, learn more about Craftmasters Restoration & Upholstery.

Greg Gummersall used to be a member of the corporate world. In 1988 he decided to leave and started training in the art of furniture upholstery and restoration, which is when he created his business Craftmasters. Now with the help of his son Matt, Gummersall restores and replaces upholstery all over the Atlanta area including restaurants, hospitals, doctors' offices and airline hubs as well as creating custom home furniture for private clients. I recently sat down to talk with Greg about his company.

Patch: What is the best aspect of owning Craftmasters?

Greg: Being in control of what's happening. There's some things you can't control like a bad economy but you can control your own operation. The people that you hire, you can hand pick and make sure they're of good quality. You can make as much as you want or as little as you want. Staying competitive and turning out quality work is something that gives me a sense of pride.

Patch: What is the most challenging aspect of owning an upholstery business?

Greg: Meeting the demand at times. Sometimes it seems like everything comes at once but it's nothing that we haven't been able to deal with. We've always managed to be as big as we need to be and still be small enough to stay in business.

Patch: What makes Craftmasters unique?

Greg: Our flexibility and the fact that we do so many different things. We can do vinyl and leather repairs, complete re-upholstery on just about anything and we also have the capability to do a powder coating now on your outside patio furniture. We're in several things.

Patch: What make the Lilburn community special?

Greg: That's where I live. You take care of where you live, and the word spreads about your business and that's great.
