Business Spotlight: RFS Cabinets

Each week we feature a business from our hometown of Lilburn. This week, learn more about RFS Cabinets.

Ron Skrobish learned the art of cabinetry and wood working from his uncle while growing up and going to college in Illinois. He opened up the doors to RFS Cabinets in 1986 after finishing college with a degree in architecture. Skrobish not only builds custom cabinets but designs and builds furniture as well. I recently sat down to talk with Ron about his business.

Patch: What is the best aspect of owning RFS Cabinets?

Ron: I guess it would be that I can name my own hours as opposed to having a job working for someone else. There's not much else different between the two.

Patch: What is the most challenging aspect of owning a custom cabinet making business?

Ron: The most challenging to me is communicating with people. Being able to provide exactly what they want, what they see in their head, and then turning that idea into a reality. Now that I have a drawing program that shows pictures of what we design the communication is less challenging but it can definitely take a while to get things right.

Patch: What makes your business unique?

Ron: Well the drawing program definitely falls under this category but we also make everything custom in-house. I don't buy the doors and drawers and cabinets from someone else. We make them fit exactly to each customers' needs and we do all of the finishing as well.

Patch: What makes the Lilburn community special?

Ron: The small town atmosphere and the people here are better than anywhere I've been in the United States and I have been a lot of places.
