Lilburn Mayor Among Attendees at Ribbon Cutting for Studio Movie Grill-Duluth

Upscale movie theater on Venture Drive opens with Can Film Festival and VIP Party.

Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris, Lilburn Mayor Johnny Crist, and State Rep. Pedro Marin joined Studio Movie Grill President Brian Schultz, Studio Movie Grill-Duluth General Manager Zach Locker, and other dignitaries cutting the ribbon to celebrate the grand opening of the new movie theater that combines eating, drinking and movie watching.

The theater on Venture Drive started showing first-run movies earlier in the day Wednesday (Nov. 28). Regular patrons donated canned goods to get free movie tickets. The Can Film Festival continues through Friday, Nov. 30. Canned goods collected over the three-day period will be donated to the Duluth location of the Salvation Army.

After the ribbon was unfurled from movie reels and cut Wednesday evening, about 150 special guests at a VIP opening party were treated to complimentary food and drinks in the theater lobby and lounge followed by dinner and an advance screening of “Hyde Park on the Hudson.” Party guests could also opt to see “Flight,” “Skyfall,” “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2,” “Life of Pi,” “Rise of the Guardians,” or “Red Dawn.”

Theater staff served Studio label wine and specialty cocktails and passed appetizers that included barbecue ribs, shrimp, bacon-wrapped scallops, coconut chicken nuggets, gourmet pizza, and other samples to VIP guests.

Then guests were ushered into an auditorium where they ordered dinner, watched a movie from comfortable seats and enjoyed an appetizer, entrée and dessert on their individual dining tables. Popular choices included the barbecue ribs, crab cakes and pizza. (Gourmet popcorn was also available.)
