Restaurant Grades: Know Then Go
A look at restaurant inspections conducted by the health department in Greater Lilburn.
Lil City Cafe Diner got a B this week with a score of 82, a big improvement over last week's 56.
Below is this week's results of recent Gwinnett County restaurant inspections in Greater Lilburn by the East Metro Health District, which covers Gwinnett, Rockdale and Newton counties. Each report includes a synopsis of deficiencies found by the inspector.

August 29

Violations cited: The center of a pizza sauce wasn't at the proper cooling temperature. Buckets used to cool the pizza sauce were too deep. There was no temperature-measuring device where hot foods were kept. Some employees were seen wearing bracelets while making pizzas (no jewelry is allowed except for a plain ring). An employee's cell phone was seen above the pizza prep area. A protective strip at he back door had a gap at the base of it, possibly allowing for pests to get in.

Violations cited: Raw calamari was stored above bacon, raw shrimp was stored above shredded cheese, and raw philly steak was stored above tomatoes. An employee cracked an egg, then handled clean utensils with the same gloves. Mushroom gravy, marinara sauce, mashed potatoes and chicken noodle soup weren't heated to the correct temperature before being put on the holding table.

Name and location: Smoothie King, 4747 Stone Mountain Highway
Score: 96/A
Previous scores: 100/A on Feb. 14, 2011 and 100/A on Sept. 28, 2010
Violations cited: An employee was seen wearing a bracelet and a "beaded fashion ring" while preparing drinks. The disposable drink cups were stocked above the protective line in the dispenser.
