Restaurant Grades: Know Then Go

A look at restaurant inspections conducted by the health department in Greater Lilburn.

Below are this week's results of recent Gwinnett County restaurant inspections in Greater Lilburn by the East Metro Health District, which covers Gwinnett, Rockdale and Newton counties. Each report includes a synopsis of deficiencies found by the inspector.

Dec. 6

Name and location: China King Restaurant, 3050 Five Forks Trickum

Previous scores: 91/A on April 22, 2011 and 97/A on March 22, 2011

Violations cited: The latest inspection report was posted behind the counter, and needed to be moved so that customers could get at least one foot away from it to read it. Forks were stored on the floor.

Previous scores: 99/A on May 2, 2011 and 90/A on Aug. 20, 2010

Violations cited: Food trays were stored on the floor. Utensils were stored in a basket that didn't have a cleanable surface and had no inserts.

Score: 98/A

Previous scores: 99/A on June 25, 2011 and 97/A on May 9, 2011.

Violations cited: The water hydrant in the dumpster area didn't have a backflow preventor. The hose for the sanitizer dispenser had a hole in it and wasn't totally attached to the dispenser.

Score: 91/A

Previous scores: 96/A on April 12, 2011 and 92/A on Aug. 10 2010

Violations cited: The inside of the ice machine had "slime like" growth near the shoot. Containers of sauce, bags of onions and a box of tomatoes were stored less than six inches from the floor. There was a wood panel under a table and under a keg cooler. (All surfaces need to be nonabsorbent).  A wood panel along the wall at the floor need repairing, and a wall in a storage room had a hole in it. Some ceiling tiles had water damage.

Violations cited: The restaurant's permit wasn't displayed prominently enough. A Cell phone was on the prep table, and coats were on the same shelf as some food-service items.

Name and location: , 895 Indian Trail Road

Score: 90/A

Previous scores: 72/C on Nov. 30, 2011 and 99/A on Jan 23, 2011

Violations cited: Some pizzas weren't properly marked for contolling the time they're kept on the holding rack. The latest inspection report wasn't displayed in the lobby and at the drive-through window.

Name and location: Milas Pupseria, 950 Indian Trail-Lilburn Road

Score: 85/B

Previous scores: 66/U on Nov. 29, 2011 and 100/A on Oct. 21, 2011

Violations cited: Some foods weren't kept cold enough in the prep cooler. The most recent inspection report wasn't displayed. There was a leak in a pipe underneath one sink.

Nov. 29

Name and location: , 375 Rockbridge Road

Score: 91/A

Previous scores: 95/A on Oct. 18, 2011

Violations cited: The metal tip of the potato slicer was dirty. Salami and Philly steak toppings were held in the fridge longer than seven days. The calendar date and the day of the week on some labels didn't match up. The floor underneath equipment and shelving was dirty. Coving under the dishwashing sink needed to be repaired.
