Pilates returns to it origin…..Helping those who give so much.

During WW I Joseph Pilates helped injured soldiers recover from battle injuries and today there are Pilate programs around the country working with the many injuries that the soldiers faced on their journey to live a whole life again.

The June issue of Pilate Style magazine published “Healing The Heroes”  In this article Heidi Dvorak discussed the application of specialized Pilates program developed by Pilates master Elizabeth Larkam and Mike Podlenski a physical therapist and former student of Larkam.  The program is “regarded as the most comprehensive Pilates program for polytrauma clients in the world”.  This program is being taught around the world to service soldiers in many countries who have suffered the loss of limbs. While I am so proud to be a part of a practice such as Pilates that can be used to help our servicemen and women, I would like to stress that Pilates is for anyone who wants to make changes in their life that include becoming stronger, having more endurance, breathing properly, developing balance becoming more body aware.  Pilates is a non-invasive method that increases movement in the manner of which we were designed. Through regular practice the student leaves behind patterns in movement that wears on the joints and tendons which as we age may restrict movement, cause pain and require radical invasive procedures.
