5 Things You Need to Know, July 5

1) Weather:

• According to Weather.com today we'll enjoy some partly cloudy skies. A stray afternoon thunderstorm is possible. High 95F. Chance of rain is 30%. The UV Index is 10 which is very high. We'll keep you updated with weather alerts here and on the Lilburn Patch Facebook page. 

2) Air Quality: 

•  Georgia's Clean Air Campaign predicts an air quality index of 106 which is A CODE ORANGE ALERT!  Air Quality: Because of the predicted concentrations of GROUND-LEVEL OZONE, air quality in metro Atlanta is predicted to be "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups." Health Advisory:  Air is more likely to be unhealthy for more people. Children, people who are sensitive to ozone, and people with heart or lung disease should limit prolonged outdoor exertion during the late afternoon or early evening when ozone levels are highest.

3) Holidays & Observances

• July 5 is Apple Turnover Day. More American than Apple Pie? No need to make your own pastry - here's a quick recipe from Cooks.com to celebrate the day!  

3 apples, peeled and diced
3 cans Crescent rolls
3/4 c. brown sugar
3 tbsp. flour
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
pinch of ginger
dash of nutmeg

GLAZE TOPPING:

2 tsp. warm milk
a drop of vanilla
1/2 c. powdered sugar

Combine flour, cinnamon, ginger and nutmet and mix with diced apples. Separate Crescent rolls; place a large tablespoon of apple mixture in each roll and fold over each side (a diaper fold). Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350°F for 20-25 minutes (cold oven) or for 10-15 minutes in a preheated oven.

Mix the topping ingredients and over each roll while still hot. Adjust icing to pouring consistency by adding more sugar if it's too thin or more milk if it's too thick. Makes 24.
