5 Things You Need to Know, June 5

Everything you need to know to get through the mid-week excitement!

Weather:

  • The high will be near 80 with intervals of clouds and sunshine. The chance of rain is 10%. Georgia's Clean Air Campaign is forecasting an air quality of 49, which is GOOD but bordering on MODERATE; those sensitive to air pollution should be careful. We'll keep you updated with weather alerts here and on the Lilburn Patch Facebook page.

Gas:

  • Our Commute Widget shows the best gas price locally is $3.20 at Murphy USA 3950 Lawrenceville Hwy NW. Before you head out for the day, check out our Commute Widget for live traffic updates and the latest gas prices around Lilburn.

  • Today is significant as the anniversary of the D-Day invasion during WWII. Allied Forces stormed the beaches of Normandy. Fly your flags today in proud remembrance.
  • June 6 is National Yo-Yo Day. The inventor of the yo-yo, Donald F. Duncan, was born on this date in 1892. Pull out your prized Duncan Yo-Yo and dazzle your friends with the lost art of "shooting the moon" or "walkin the dog". Or if you're like me and generally end up maimed and bruised after a few yo-yo attempts, maybe just listen to a little Yo Yo Ma on the MP3.

Lilburn Things:

  • There's still time to register your Home and Business Monitored Alarm Systems online. You must register by June 15 to be in compliance with Lilburn's ordinance or you will be subject to a fine.
  • Girl Scout Day Camp continues today and runs through the week in Lilburn City Park. Expect some traffic back up around the park this morning as Scouters are dropped of.
  • Don't forget - Lilburn Idol is this Friday along with the Lilburn Farmers' Market. Check out the city's website for more information.
