5 Things You Need To Know, June 9

Here's your daily dose of what to know today.

Good morning, Lilburn. Here’s a digital check list for Thursday, June 9.

  • 1.   It’s much more difficult out of the shower. Here’s the microphone. Cue the music. Now sing. Think it’s easy stepping out in front of a group of people and singing — on key? Well, it’s not, not even for those who sound pretty good in the shower or a church pew. You got to give it up for those local performers with the guts to try to become the next . The annual community event holds its last auditions today, starting at 5:30 p.m. at . Good luck to the contestants.
  • 2.   Rain chance is 19 percent? Really? According to our WeatherBug link (at the top of the home page, under the icon) we have a 19% chance of rain today. It’s rounded up to 20 percent, but check out the link to the hourly roundup. In other words, don’t count on the wet stuff. But count on temps in the 90s again (and yes, the smog alert is Code Orange, too). You’re sort of missing the January ice storm, aren’t you?
  • 3.   Gas gauge: A quick check of local gasoline prices before bed on GeorgiaGasPrices.com, showed $3.54 for a gallon of regular unleaded at the station at Rockbridge and Lawrenceville Highway and at on Harmony Grove. But, truthfully, will we ever be happy about gas prices ever again?
  • 4.   Nothing beats a puppet show. Take in one at 11 a.m. today at either the or branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library. Added bonus: free air conditioning.
  • 5.   Hit the market Friday. The second runs 4 p.m.-8 p.m. on Friday. Make a list today and be prepared for some farm-fresh good from local vendors. And remember that the market is held every Friday through the summer in Old Town.
