Atlanta Police say a California woman visiting the metro area for her son’s baseball tournament was the victim of a random shooting while driving along I-75 near Northside Drive early Friday morning.

According to APD spokesman John Chafee, Kimberly Taylor and her husband flew in from Los Angeles around midnight to see their 17-year-old son’s games in Cobb County. Having rented a vehicle, the couple was driving north along the interstate when “an unidentified black male leaned out of the passenger side window of a vehicle that was to the left and in front of them and fired several rounds from a handgun into their car.”

The bullets entered through the windshield and struck Taylor in the face. She was able to maintain control of the vehicle and pull over to the side of the road, and her husband then took her to Piedmont Hospital.

On Saturday morning she was listed in stable condition and her injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

– Loganville Patch

in Lawrenceville on Saturday, brining it under control in little more than an hour. Officials said a man has been charged, allegedly for starting the fire by setting off a model rocket.

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged. However, the fire did ignite a large section of dense bush that officials said threatened several areas of the park. Multiple fire engines responded and a rehab cooling unit was required for firefighters working in the intense heat. An additional 8,000-gallon water tender truck also was required to get water to areas difficult to reach.

A memorial for Griffin and Jake Prince, the Buford brothers who were killed in a Lake Lanier boating collision last month, will be Monday in Gwinnett. Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel and Gardens in Buford will host visitation for the youths from 6-9 p.m., according to the funeral home website.

Griffin Prince, 13, and Jake Prince, 9, were killed June 18. They were aboard a pontoon boat being piloted by their father when another boat crashed into the Princes' boat late at night. The driver of the other boat, Paul J. Bennett, has been charged with boating under the influence.
