New seafood place in Tucker starting to get noticed.

Each week, Patch picks a restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here is this week's choice:

Golden Dolphin Seafood Restaurant & Grill

It's only been open a matter of weeks, but this low-key, calm place is already attracting a steady flow of customers in an area where seafood on the whole is scarce.

The concept here is pretty simple - good food, reasonably priced in a joint that looks like it belongs on the beach.

There are things they do quite well. Rainbow Trout had just the right taste and consistency. Worth trying is the more exotic Pangasius, an Asian catfish that is also sometimes known as Basa Fish. There are the standard choices, of course - Tilapia, Oysters, Jumbo Shrimp, Perch, Flounder and Alaskan Whitefish, among others. Then there is what they call Captain John's Fresh Catch, consisting of broiled filets of whatever takes your fancy. No idea who the captain might be.

For a restaurant that specializes in fish, they do a lot of other things too. They have a variety of steaks, Greek Platters, Pasta dishes and desserts. Ah yes, those desserts. An enticing array that includes Tiramisu, Greek Syrup Carrot Cake, Baklava and various pies. Starters include Fried Zucchini Croquettes, Calamari, Fried Green Tomatoes, Crab Cakes and the obligatory Combo Platter. Soups too - Seafood Gumbo and Greek Egg-Lemon Chicken served with bread.Β

No alcohol is served, and they appear in no hurry to change that. Teething problems are in evidence but will likely be sorted out in due course. It's clear that management wanted to avoid being just another fish camp and they are going about it the right way.
