Bites Nearby: Where's Your Favorite Local Ice Cream?

Every week Patch brings you a restaurant that may be worth your time. This week it's all about ice cream!

Each week, Patch picks a restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. But, this week we decided to chose a variety:

Your Local Ice Cream Shop

Now, that temperatures are holding in the 80s and 90s, it's the perfect time for a little bit of that cold, sweet treat everyone seems to love. There are a ton of flavors and varieties for everyone to try. From chocolate to vanilla, sorbet to sherbert, floats, or cones, ice cream (and its other frozen-treat counterparts) are the perfect thing for these hot and muggy days. There's even non-milk ice cream made with soy. (That's the kind I have to get.)

A great thing about this Bites Nearby is that there is somewhere to get ice cream or other frozen treats in any city. (Well, at least any city I've every been in.) You can try well-known shops, such as  (at Dunkin Donuts) and . Or, you can stop at any number of ,  or the like. (I like the Wendy's Frosty, myself. But, I don't get the normal kind. I ask for non-caffeinated soda.) You can also head to those shops that are just known in your area, an old diner for example. See, ice cream is everywhere.

Then, there is the Ice Cream Truck. I hear it on Saturdays. No one can miss the jingle that gets closer and closer and closer until wham! It pulls right up on your street, and children from all over start running from out of nowhere. I remember those days of begging my grandmother for just five more pennies. Ice cream trucks can be traps, though. (My opinion.) Everything is a few dollars or less, so you could very well buy more than you intended, like two ice cream sandwiches instead of one. Still, the Ice Cream Truck is a great option for, well, ice cream.

No matter where you buy your ice cream or frozen treats, it shouldn't cost you much. I think the highest I've seen is in the grocery store, where some gallons of ice cream can be $5 to $6. But, really, it's relatively cheap treat all around. It's easy to find, plus it provides cooling off for all of these hot days. Count me in.
