Five Things to Do to Get the Kids Moving

Get their blood and brain cells circulating.

After a weekend of rainy weather and being cooped up in the house, no doubt you and the kids and will be ready to get out moving around again.

Here are a few relatively inexpensive activities for kids that will help them get their blood and the brain cells circulating.

MOVE  IT!

What:  Learn to Dance the Zumba, Hip Hop, Line Dancing and Bachata. A fun afterschool program geared toward Obesity Awareness & Prevention.

Where:  Trickum Middle School at 130 Killian Hill Road SW, Lilburn, GA 30047

When: Tuesdays, March 8 to 29, 4 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.

GWINNETT GYMNASTICS CENTER

What: Check out all of the creative and fun kids programs designed to build healthy habits and good self esteem for kids of all ages

Where: 927 Killian Hill Road, Lilburn, GA 30047. 770-921-5630

When: Various age appropriate activities and classes offered throughout the week

Cost: Varies depending on program. 

Explore the Greenway Trail

What:  The kids can ride their bikes,race, skip or just walk along the Centennial Greenway Trail and count the number of rabbits or Bluebird houses from Main Street to Rockbridge Road

Where: Greenway Trail, across the street from 76 Main Street, Lilburn, GA 30047

When:  Afternoons or evenings are the best times to spot the rabbits and other critters

Cost: Free 

Skate-A-Long USA

What:  Take the kids roller skating in a safe environment.  Check their monthly calendar for more Family Night discounts and other fun events.

Where:  744 Beaver Ruin Road NW, Lilburn, GA 30047

When:  Monday evenings from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Cost: Dollar Madness every Monday – All skates are $1, Admission is $1 and Most concession items are only $1 each. Family Night every Tuesday  – Admission is $2.

YELLOW RIVER GAME RANCH

What:  Take the kids and roam through the 24-acre preserve while trying to identify more than 500 different animal species

Where: 4525 Highway 78, Lilburn, GA 30047.  770-972-6643

When:  Daily, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

Cost: Adults $8; Children (2-11) $7.
