Lilburn Arts Alliance Asks for Sponsors, Announces Pumpkin Carving Contest

Members of the non-profit met Wednesday, July 31, to talk about how they could lease their own space and more.

The Lilburn Arts Alliance met in city hall for the first time Wednesday (July 31) since the winter to kick off the rest of the year.

One of the main topics of the evening was the call out for sponsors. President Alan Harp announced that the alliance's goal is to raise $10,000 by the end of the year. The organization, which is working toward getting its official nonprofit status, aims to use the funds for a permanent home.

The location would be used for the alliance's meetings, workshops, gallery showings, exhibitions and more. No leases have been signed so far, but they are looking at a space in Old Town Lilburn, specifically a 1,200-square-foot building behind The Yellow Rose Bridal shop. They're keeping their options open, though.

Also to help with funds, alliance member Harold Walker announced that they are holding a pumpkin carving contest at Lilburn Daze in October. They need committee members to help organize the event, pick prizes and choose artists to judge during the contest.

At the beginning of the meeting, all board members of the advisory board were introduced. Additionally, it was announced that future meetings will take place on the second Monday of every month at 7 p.m. starting in September. The location is to be determined.

Advisory member David Raderstorf was the special guest of the evening. A former businessman, Raderstorf got into art after he retired and describes his art as "experimental," using everything from watercolors to webbing to stencils and pour techniques on his work. He is also the director of the board of trustees for Kudzu Art Zone in Norcross.
