Lilburn CID Votes to Keep Same Millage Rate

The rate has stayed at 5 mills since the community improvement district started in 2010.

The board of directors for the Lilburn CID voted unanimously to keep the 2013 millage rate at 5 mills at their monthly meeting Friday (July 12).

The millage rate has been the same since the local community improvement district started in 2010.

"In order to maintain our budget, we had to keep it at 5," said Gerald McDowell, executive director for the CID.

The rate applies to all businesses in the district, which stretches along Lawrenceville Highway.

Since the Lilburn CID began, property values have decreased, which means that the organization is collecting less, said McDowell. But an increase is predicted for the 2013 proposed property value, which is essentially a goal of the CID.

McDowell believes the reason for this increase is because the economy is improving.

"Some of the local activity in Lilburn has allowed property values to increase," the executive director said.

He added that once they see this increase, the CID may decide to lower the millage rate.
