Lilburn Police Running in 5K to Honor Fallen Officer

Sgt. Tim Allen is participating in the Law Enforcement 5K Run to Remember in Washington in October to raise funds in honor of Officer Michael T. Hester, who was fatally shot during a traffic stop.

A Lilburn Police officer is running a race to raise funds in honor of another department officer who lost his life in the line of duty.

According to the city of Lilburn's Facebook page, Sgt. Tim Allen is participating in the Law Enforcement 5K Run to Remember in Washington on Oct. 13, 2013.

Allen and the Lilburn Police Department are asking for donations to reach his fundraising goal of $200. The funds will go to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund in honor of Lilburn Police Department Officer Michael T. Hester, who died April 19, 1994.

Officer Hester was shot and killed during a traffic stop. He had stopped a car which subsequently pulled several hundred yards down a driveway to an abandoned house. While he was talking to the driver the suspect exited the through driver's door and shot him several times. He was able to return fire. Both Officer Hester and the suspect were found dead a short time later next to the suspect's car.
