Man Passes Away After Heroic Act

The Good Samaritan who dove into a creek to save a little girl from drowning in Rockmart, Georgia, passed away today with family by his side. 

According to a Facebook page created for him, Mike Patterson's spinal cord was severed when he dove into Euharlee Creek. He was subsequently paralyzed. 

In addition to paralysis, he has battled respiratory acidosis, pneumonia, a bacterial infection and a blood clot, according to the Facebook page. Following his accident, thousands of people around the globe were inspired by his courageous act and sent in cards, letters, emails and donations.
