Police: Animal Cruelty May Have Contributed to Cat's Death in Lilburn Apartment

The cat was found in an empty unit in the Villas at Indian Trail.

Authorities believe foul play may be the cause of death of a cat found in an empty apartment in Lilburn.

According to the Lilburn Police report, maintenance workers at the Villas at Indian Trail, located off Stoneview Trail, found the dead feline in the bathtub of the unit. The smell of the cat led them to the bathroom.

Police called an animal control officer, who said that the animal's injuries suggested possible animal cruelty. Blood was coming from the cat's mouth and nose, and its eyes were bulging.

The onsite manager told police that the former renters were recently asked to vacate the apartment.

The scene was photographed and the cat was transported to a vet for further investigation. If the investigation reveals cruelty to animals, the report says, there could be prosecution.
