Former Falcon Dewey McClain Only Candidate to Qualify for Special House Election

The democrat will run for the seat in State House District 100.

The qualifying period for the special election for State House District 100 closed at noon on Wednesday, and only one candidate submitted the appropriate paperwork.

Dewey McClain announced in July his intentions to run for the seat vacated by Brian Thomas. On Wednesday, he submitted the $400 fee and paperwork to qualify for the special election on Nov. 5.

The seat was vacated after Brian Thomas announced his resignation in June to take a job in Maine.

A 35 year resident of Gwinnett County, McClain is a former Atlanta Falcons linebacker and retired from the City of Atlanta after 22 years. He is currently the president of the Atlanta North Georgia Labor Council AFL-CIO. The 59 year old Lilburn resident is married to his high school sweetheart Linda Evans, and is the father of two adult daughters. This is the first time he has run for public office.
