Arcado ES to celebrate GA Walk to School Day

Arcado Elementary School students will Walk-N-Roll to School, Wednesday, March
5, 2014 to celebrate health and wellness, safe routes to school, and the environmental benefits of walking or riding a bike to school.

Approximately
60 participants are expected to be led by “walking school bus drivers” from PTA Environmental Committee, assisted across the street by Lilburn
Police, and welcomed at school with stickers
and prizes.  Punch cards provide an incentive
to continue walking or biking, and all participants’ names are displayed on a large
“Reducing our Carbon Pawprint” banners in the school. The walkers/bikers
are featured on the school’s morning news show in the days leading up to the
event, and children who live farther than 1 mile away are encouraged to make posters
to promote the event.

Please look out for additional walkers in the morning, cheer them on and consider alternative modes of transportation for the week - walk, ride a bike, carpool, vanpool or ride a bus.  You will help reduce pollution and traffic congestion in the school zone.

Walk to School events raise
awareness of the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and
emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among
children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion and concern for the environment. These events build connections between families, schools and the broader
community.
