Local? Organic? Free Range?

Is anyone else confused by all the information out there about what we should eat?

Is anyone else confused by all the information out there about what we should eat? The more I learn the more overwhelmed I become. After reading and researching I think the best thing for my family is locally harvested, pesticide free, humanely raised and slaughtered, grass fed, and sustainable. But how realistic is it for us to only eat food that meets all of those qualifications? Where can we get food like that on a budget and after local farmers markets have closed for the season? Our family's solution, we have a neighbor who has chickens that we can buy eggs from, we have been buying as much produce locally as we can, and we don't eat a lot of meat in our house. Meat is the thing my husband would like more of, but after all that we have learned even he doesn't want to eat something that was treated badly, given anti biotics, and killed in humanely. My hope is that with all the information out there other consumers will become more conscious about what they are feeding their families and my dream food will be more easily available.
