Farmer's Market Spotlight: Game On in Contest

Your votes are needed ASAP!

Who knew there was actually a national competition for local farmer’s markets?

The extremely creative management team of McManus and Brannen has entered Lilburn into a national competition sponsored by the American Farmland Trust.

The goal of this organization is to build awareness and educate Americans regarding how important it is to protect our valuable farmland and support our local farmers.

The contest started June 1 and runs through the end of August, so time is of the essence.

The bad news is that Snellville currently holds the lead with a little more than 400 votes. However, the good news is that together we can all do better than that.

In less than 2 minutes, you too can place your vote: 

  • Log onto www.farmland.org/vote
  • Enter the word LILBURN or the zip code 30047
  • Click on the underlined title link - Lilburn Farmer’s Market
  • Fill in the blanks (took me less than 1 minute)
  • Write a brief comment about your favorite aspect of the LFM
  • Click the Submit button

So many European countries have local open-air markets in almost every village and the local residents shop at these farmer’s markets as an intricate part of their daily culture and diet.

We can certainly learn from their example and start cooking seasonal recipes with fresh seasonal produce for a healthier lifestyle.
