A Graduation Party Gone Wrong

Inside the Police Reports: A 17-year-old Parkview student closes down a chaperoned party after he was caught nearby with a bottle of Captain Morgan.

Great Way to Ruin It for Your Friends: On a recent evening, police responded to a call of suspicious activity involving a few juveniles loitering outside of the caller’s house.

When police arrived at the location — Briggs Circle and Lilburn-Stone Mountain Road — they found a 17-year-old Parkview High School student with a large bottle of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum hiding behind his 2001 Land Rover Discovery, which was also illegally parked within 30 feet of a stop sign.

Police began speaking with the Stone Mountain resident, who said that the rum wasn’t his and he got the alcohol from a house party nearby. Gwinnett police arrived at the gathering, a high school graduation party, and spoke with the homeowner, who said that the teen was kicked out of the party because he brought alcohol.

Officers interviewed multiple juveniles at the party and didn’t suspect alcoholic activity, but told the guests that the party was over, anyway. They checked everyone prior to leaving and no one seemed intoxicated.

The suspect’s alcohol level in the Alco-Sensor was .02, and he admitted to having a “little to drink.” He also said that he was going to drive away as police pulled up.
