AC Units Stolen From Homes Near Cole Drive

Air conditioning units were reported stolen from three vacant, nearby homes within four days of one another.

All less than a mile from one another near Cole Drive, three vacant Lilburn homes were reported having the copper wire from their air conditioning units stolen this month, among other damage.

The crimes, taking place at residences on Chimney Rock Drive, Arrowhead Trail and Planters Row, were reported within four days of one another, too.

The homeowner of the first recorded incident, reported June 16 on the 4600 block of Arrowhead Trail, told police that two air conditioning units were taken from the side of his home, which was about to be sold.

The victim, 67,  has no idea who took the units, which were estimated to be worth $2,500. The police report says the theft "looked like it was done by someone who knew what they were doing," and it notes that the crime could have taken place from 11 a.m. June 14 to 6 p.m. June 16.

The victim of the second incident believes the burglary that took place at his vacant home is a bit more personal. Reported June 20 on the 500 block of Planters Row, the 61-year-old homeowner explained to police that the suspect(s) entered his basement, pulled the AC wires from the ceiling and broke the main water pipe, flooding the basement.

The report says the damage to the basement was estimated at $4,000, and the air conditioning wires and connections were valued at $2,500.

The owner believed his ex-tenants were to blame for the damage, considering he recently filed a lawsuit against them. His ex-tenants, a couple from Lilburn, were served with the subpoena Friday, June 17, so he believes they were feeling vindicated.

The victim, who resides in Snellville, told police that the couple knows the residence well, thus explaining the no-forced entry into the home. He told police that his neighbor noticed his basement overflowing around 11 a.m. and a red car leave his driveway. The report says the crime could have occurred within the time frame of 6 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The last incident, also reported June 20, took place at the 4600 block of Chimney Rock Drive, any time from June 12 at 9:50 a.m. to June 19 at 5:50 p.m. The homeowner, a 74-year-old who currently resides in Midland, Ga., told police that a neighbor discovered the interior copper coils stolen from the home's AC unit when he was cutting the grass for him. The market value for the AC unit was valued at $2,995.
